Tim Sabatino: On working with host Giselle Claudino

Tim Sabatino presents: Giselle Claudino, Brasilian host and model, friend and incarnation of happiness.

Giselle was born in Joao Pessoa, in Brazil. Since she was little, she has been interested in every aspect of the entertainment industry, from fashion shows and beauty pageants to acting and singing. As a teenager, Giselle did some modeling and acting, but she quickly discovered that her true passion lies holding a microphone. Giselle was organizing and hosting events for her family’s company when she got noticed by Brazilian TV networks, which launched her career. She was invited to be a reporter for an extreme sports show, then a daily show, then seasional fashion shows till she was daily on a variety show as the main reporter at one of the biggest channel of the city. Giselle moved to Los Angeles in 2004. With 9 month in town, Giselle became the international entertainment reporter for a Brazilian show aired on national television – Rede TV Brazil. She now has her own show, Reporter Hollywood, which is airs weekly on the show Manha da Gente on Rede TV network – Paraiba.

Giselle Claudino is also an accomplished wardrobe stylist and fashion designer, and a graduate from FIDM. That is how Tim Sabatino met Giselle many years ago. Tim was doing a photo shoot with Brazilian models Cristina Conhos and Rubria Negrao, who invited Giselle as a wardrobe stylist. Her high energy, creativity and natural friendliness did not remain unseen by Tim. They have been collaborating ever since.

Giselle is the host for the Miss Brazil-USA beauty pageant and invited Tim Sabatino to be a judge for the Los Angeles chapter. The winner wins a fashion shoot with Tim.

Giselle is also a blogger. You can follow her on her channel Fabulous Channel by Giselle Claudino. She has interviewed Tim on several occasions, covering his art exhibitions and photo shoots. Click here to read her articles.

How to choose your photographer – by Tim Sabatino

Actors, Models, Musicians, Business Men and Women, at some point in your career, you will need photography. Wether it is for headshots, publicity portraits, album cover, corporate headshot or modeling portfolio, you will end up under the eye of the camera. And it can be intimidating. And if you’re not comfortable, it’ll show in your pictures. So what can you do?

Choose your photographer wisely!

It is important that you have a good positive connection with your photographer, that you trust he can do the job well and give you what you  need. So how do you choose?

  1. Know what you want! Too often, we encounter clients who have no idea what they want, thus making it tricky for the photographer to give you an appropriate quote and to deliver the right product for you. Know what you need and want so you can describe it accurately to the photographer you contact.
  2. Find a photographer. Honestly, the best way to do this is asking around and getting referrals. Word of mouth is a great way to get comfortable because you’re not just “cold calling” someone about whom you know nothing. Talk to other people in your industry. Who did they use as photographer and were they satisfied?  You can also search online: google “photographer – your city – what you need”. That should give you quite an extensive list, but then you’ll have to sort through the crooks and beginners to find the pros.
  3. Do your homework! Get on the photographer’s website, look at his/her portfolio. Do you like his/her work? Is it the style of photography that you want for your project?
  4. Get in touch with the photographer and have a real conversation. Yes, person to person, not just via email or text. You need to talk to the photographer so you can have a feel of his/her personality.
  5. Ideally you should meet with the photographer in person, check out his place. Is his studio clean and tidy? Is he professional and polite? How does he make you feel? Does he validate you or invalidate you? This is a great opportunity to discuss in details and with visuals what is needed and wanted, and to make sure that you get along with the photographer.

What if I don’t feel comfortable with him/her? Easy. Move on! Find another photographer and start over at step 2. There are hundreds and hundreds of photographers out there. There will be one that you will like, I guarantee it!
